Lecce Galatina Air Base (LCC/LIBN) is a fighter air base in the south of Italy a few minutes drive southwest of the city of Lecce. It hosts Aeromacchi T346 as well as Aeromacchi MB339 of the Italian air force, which fly roughly twice a day in groups: once around 10 and again around 15 o’clock. A car is definitely needed as the spot is far away from everything.
General Information | |
Security | Spotting is risky here to be honest. Just sit in your car in the fields, greet the passing farmers nicely and keep a low profile. Keep away from the fence! |
Runway | There is only one runway 14/32 (2023x60m) |
Field – 32 Arrivals | |
---|---|
WHERE | This spot is no exact position rather the bumpy field/dirt roads in the area of the approach at the southern end of runway 32. Pass the village of Contrada paradisi and then make your way up north to the area marked on the map. Then position yourself here as you want. Stop by the roadside to not block the farmers roads as they are quite busy here. |
WHAT | All arrivals on runway 32. |
TIME | This position is good for afternoons, but by simply driving a few roads east of it you can also spot in the morning here. |
MISC. | Nothing really nearby, but normally you won‘t stay here for a long time – traffic is quite uninteresting after a few hours/days. But here are lots of insects such as flies. Keep a low profile! Stay in your car and hide the camera. Spotting as hobby is very unusual here. |
FOCAL LENGTH | 200-500mm, depending on how late and deep they turn in here |
