Cameri Air Force Base (LIMN) is located just a few miutes southwest of Milan’s biggest airport Malpensa. Cameri is home to the first Italian RMV: aircraft maintenance department. Eurofighters come to Cameri for maintenance, while F35s are produced here. Sometimes in addition to these locally based aircraft you may see some Italian or even foreign transporters or similar. But all in all the traffic here is quite quiet…

Spotting Information | |
Ladder | Not recommended as it is forbidden here! |
Car/Public Transport | A car is definitely needed! |
Drinks/Food | No shops directly at the spots, but the city of Cameri with plenty options can be found 3km southwest of the air base. |
Hotels | No spotter hotels around. |
Season | The fighter fly all year around actually, but in winter you may have the opportunity to take pictures with snow covered mountains in the back, but it is cloudy most of the time unluckily! |
Security | This is an active Italian air base! Keep away from the fence, do not use ladders and radio scanners at all! If the police approaches you: explain what you are doing and cooperate! If they send you away, just leave…
DO NOT take any pictures of the facilities/buildings! Police will come and kick you out! |
Runway Usage | |
General Info | Runway 35 is used most of the time. |
Spot #1 – Via Ticino – 35 arrivals | |
---|---|
WHERE | Simply located along Via Ticino south of the air base. You can park your car by the roadside here somehow and then just shoot from directly there. Simple as that. |
WHAT | Here you can nicely see arrivals onto runway 35. |
TIME | Good all day as you can easily switch sides by walking across the arrival path. |
MISC. | Keep away from the fence, stay on the other side of the road! Do not show off your huge lenses all the time: just take your pictures and put the camera down again. |
FOCAL LENGTH | 200-400mm |

Spot #2 – Forest park – 35 Departures | |
---|---|
WHERE | This spot is located north of the air base along sort of a channel in a forest being kind of a National park. Turn off Via Cameri and now you actually need to make your way to the east along the channel by foot as the way from here on is a sort of bicycle path. Cars are prohibited except the ones of the park authorities – they use this way to patrol and if they catch you with a car in there, you will have a problem. So try to get rid of your car along Via cameri somewhere and then walk along the channel to the east until you reach a bridge on the left over the channel/river. Thereby you have reached the spot. |
WHAT | This spot offers views on 35 departures. |
TIME | Best time is in the afternoon. |
MISC. | This spot is actually located in sort of a National park: thereby it is often guarded by the park surveillance as mentioned. If they see you here, they may call the police. So do not stay here for too long, rather a hit and run spot: ACCESS AT YOUR OWN RISK! |
FOCAL LENGTH | >250mm |
