Guernsey Airport (GCI/EGJB) is the only airport on the island of Guernsey. In 2018, the airport served 837,615 passengers to and from destinations all around Europe. There are flights all year round, mainly flying to destinations in the UK. Guernsey Airport is the hub for the island’s very own airline, Aurigny. Other airlines you can expect to see in Guernsey are Blue Islands and West Atlantic. Due to the island being an offshore financial tax haven, you can also expect to see lots of business movements. Guernsey Airport has a general aviation maintenance facility called ASG, so you can bargain on seeing lots of light aircraft from all over Europe.

Airport Information | |
Runways | |
09/27 | 1,583m / 5,194ft – Asphalt |
Terminals | One terminal for all passenger movements. |
Spotting Information | |
Ladder | There is no ladder needed for any of the locations. However, some spotters may choose to use a ladder at Spotters Cark Park, but it’s not necessary. |
Car/Public Transport | Public transport is available from St. Peter Port, the regular bus routes that take you to the airport are: 95, 94, 93, 92 and 91. Spotters Cark Park and Bruce Russel has free parking available all the time. But you must pay for airport parking. |
Restrooms | Restrooms are located at the terminal building, which is a short walk from all locations, but there are also restrooms at Bruce Russel. |
Drinks/Food | The terminal has a small cafe that isn’t too expensive. Also, there is a bistro at Bruce Russel. |
Hotels | Guernsey Airport does not have any hotels to spot from. |
Season | It is best to go in the summer as this is when movements peak, often with many inaugural routes from Loganair and Eurowings. Also, the weather deteriorates in the winter. |
Security | Airside Ops are generally relaxed and won’t give you any trouble. |
Runway Usage | |
General Info | 09/27 is for both departures and arrivals – only used in regard of wind direction, no preferred way. |
Spot #1 – Spotters Car Park- 27 movements | |
---|---|
WHERE | Once at the airport, follow the perimeter road East until you arrive at a car park with a height restriction barrier. Parking is free and unlimited. |
WHAT | Spotters Car Park gives a great view of all 27 movements. |
TIME | Best in the early morning or late evening hours in the summer months. |
MISC. | Personally, I prefer to walk just outside Spotters Car Park as the fence is chest height so no ladder is needed. Nothing around tho. |
FOCAL LENGTH | 100-300mm should cover all movements at this spot. |
Spot #2 – Bruce Russel – 09/27 movements | |
---|---|
WHERE | Once at the airport, follow the perimeter road East until you have past the Spotters Cark Park, then turn left down Rue De Bas Courtils. Once at the end of this road, make a left turning down Rue Du Gron, then you will see the turning on the left. However, Bruce Russel will also be sign posted. |
WHAT | Bruce Russel gives a great view of both 09 and 27 take offs and landings. |
TIME | Best in the early morning or late evening hours in the summer months. |
MISC. | There is a Bistro and toilets. Heat haze can often be a problem at this spot. |
FOCAL LENGTH | 100-300mm is necessary |
Spot #3 – La Villiaze road – 27 Arrivals | |
---|---|
WHERE | Once at the Airport, follow the perimeter road East until behind the runway threshold, anywhere along the bank will do you fine. |
WHAT | This spot is the best for getting 27 arrivals. However, note that this is the only movement that can be seen from this spot. |
TIME | Late morning till afternoon in the summer. Almost all day in winter. |
MISC. | Nothing needed, nothing around. |
FOCAL LENGTH | 75-200mm is a good focal length for 27 Arrivals. |
Spot #4 – Guernsey Aero Club – 09/27 movements | |
---|---|
WHERE | Once at the Airport, take Rue des Landes 300m West. Take the Right turning down La Planque Lane, the Aero Club will be at the bottom. Then you can either spot from the balcony which is a bit elevated or from the courtyard itsself, then we recommend a little step or use the benches there… |
WHAT | This spot is great for 09/27 takeoffs and landings. |
TIME | This is the best all-day spot in winter, in summer it is only good from late morning till afternoon. |
MISC. | If you are to spot here, we recommend to email the Aero Club manager in advance. Little step recommended so you can take pictures for sure. But you can also just stand on the benches maybe which were installated here. |
FOCAL LENGTH | 200mm for an ATR72 on the runway. |
