The city of Maun is the fifth largest town in Botswana. At the airport you see mainline traffic by Air Botswana, AirLink and Fastjet. But there is also a lot of private charter traffic to and from the safari lodges. These flights are operated by smaller props like the Cessna Caravan or Gippsland GA-8 Airvan.
General Information | |
Terminal | Besides the major terminal for the mainline carriers there are several small charter terminals. |
Runway | One runway 08/26 with a length of 3.700m (12.139ft) |
Road Junction | |
---|---|
WHERE | The location is just a short trip from the main terminal. Drive westwards and turn right at the next junction. Continue on this road, pass the approach path and drive straight to the next junction. You can stay here, next to a gravel area with some trees spending some shadow. |
WHAT | Arrivals on runway 08 only. |
TIME | During the winter season you can spot here the whole day. During the summer it is backlit during the morning. |
MISC. | Pretty safe spots. Kids and goats will pass by from time to time. |
FOCAL LENGTH | 330mm for a Cessna 208 |
The road junction appears to be the only possible location land side. However if you are in Maun then most likely you will take one of the chartered flight heading into the Okavango delta, it is possible to take a few quick photos in the ramp before boarding the plane. Feel free to ask the pilots they are very friendly and happy to give you a couple of mins to take pictures. An example shot – https://www.jetphotos.com/photo/10935107
Thanks for the addition of Maun. My wife and I are heading to Botswana next week!
Have a nice trip!
If I manage to get a few images, then I’ll send some in to you.
Not expecting a Maun spotting guide here…Spent great time there in 2020, hope to go back very soon
