The small airport (IATA: SPR; ICAO: MZSP) serves San Pedro city and Ambergris Caye, Belize. The traffic is dominated by the two regional carriers. Maya Island Air and Tropic Air. Both serving the capital city of Belize as well as some smaller airfields in the country.
General Information | |
Terminal | There isn`t a real terminal as every operator has its own hangar with a small terminal. |
Runway | The airport has one runway 06/24 with a length of 1024m. Usually landings on 10 and departures on 24 because of the buildings behind 24. |
24 Treshold | |
---|---|
WHERE | The small airport is directly in the city center and next to the beaches so it is pretty easy to reach, even by foot if you stay in one of the many beach hotels. The spot itself is directly at the small wooden airport fence directly at the piano keys of runway 24. It can be easily accessed from the Coconut Dr, a major road that runs to and from the airport. |
WHAT | You are very close to the runway and you can see all movements from here as the planes has to pass this point to reach the ramps and hangars. |
TIME | Good light condition from sunrise until noon. |
MISC. | The fence is very small so a ladder is not needed. Hotels, beach, restaurants are just around the corner for all the necessary amenities. |
FOCAL LENGTH | 10-100mm fits all needs |
I would’ve never thought a guide would be made for San Pedro! The last time I went in April I went spotting at the airport for the first time and it was awesome! Another spot is the bar right next to the runway! I also found a dirt path right on the southern part of the runway that you can get some cool shots with, I think the street was called “Stingray Street”.
Its a nice small airport, that’s why we have added it 🙂
Would be nice if you can send us the additional spots via our form:
