The airport of Fujairah City, a sleepy town located 80 miles east of Dubai, is well known in the aviation scene but more or less in a negative sense. Back in 2015, the small airport became popular on the media because three planes spotters from the UK were arrested over allegations of suspicious behaviour and sent to jail for several weeks. They were considered a threat to "national security". Since that the airport is a "no go" area for aviation enthusiast! But what is so fascinating about the airport, which don't offer a single schedule passenger flight? The answer is pretty simple if you look at the images below. Dozens of classics aircraft are stored across the field, from various Soviet Union types like the IL-76, AN-24 and even the IL-62, to US types like the Boeing 727, 707 and Lockheed Tristar. Fujairah is definitely the airport with the greatest density of rare aircraft types and provides some incentive for aviation enthusiasts.

Even if the airport is absolutely not recommend to visit for planespotting because of the well known security concerns, our author Jeremy Denton was able to arrange a private ramp tour back in September 2022.
