Fort Lauderdale Executive Airport (FXE/KFXE) is a general aviation airport located a few minutes north of Fort Lauderdale downtown nestled between the Florida Turnpike (west) and I-95 (east), and it is one of the busiest general aviation airports in the country with more than 172,000 annual operations. It is the busiest U.S. Customs facility for clearing international arrivals of general aviation aircraft and passengers. Over 900 aircraft are based at FXE.

Car/Public Transport | Due to its location between two major freeways it is easily accessible by car. |
Drinks/Food | Several restaurants and fast food places located along the perimeter of the airport. There is a restaurant right at the airport by the GAT facilities on the southside (“Jet Runway Cafe”, 5540 Northwest 21st Terrace, Fort Lauderdale, FL), which also offers a view of the runways. |
Hotels | There are a handful of hotels located around the airport, one of which is only a 5 minute walk from the official viewing area. |
Season | All year, but hot and humid from May through October with frequent heavy rain showers and thunderstorms. |
Security | During our visit we didn’t encounter any issues. |
Runway Usage | |
General Info | Runway 09/27 is the main runway and is used by all traffic. Runway 13/31 is used by smaller GAT aircraft, such as Cessna 172. |
Spot #1 – Official Viewing Area – 09 arrivals and line-ups | |

WHERE | This is the official viewing area on NW 56th Street near the threshold of runway 09. The deck is sufficiently elevated to clear the top of the fence. Ample parking is available. |
WHAT | Runway 09 arrivals and line-up. |
TIME | Winter: Sunrise to sunset |
MISC. | Nothing nearby, bring what you need. There are benches and tables on the deck, which is also partially covered, hence it will provide some protection against the sun or rain. |

Spot #2 – Warehouses – 27 arrivals | |
---|---|
WHERE | This spot is located where NW 12th Avenue meets NW 10th Terrace near the runway approach zone. There is no roadside parking available, the best option is to park along NW 10th Terrace on the stretch next to the water basin located behind the warehouse (see marker in map), and then to walk over the grass back to the main road. |
