Zeltweg Air Base / Fliegerhorst Hinterstoisser (ICAO: LOXZ) is the main Airfield of the Austrian Air Force. It’s base for the Austrian Eurofighters, PC-7 and Diamond DA40NG directly north of the City of Zeltweg. The base was opened before the second World war 1937 and was no main acting Point. After the war the base was handed over by the allies back to the Air Foce 1955.
The main flight time is weekdays between 08:00 and 17:00 (Fridays till 12:00). A quick reaction alert can happen 24/7 if necessary.
The base host the “Air Power”, one of Europes biggest airshows!

Car/Public Transport | reccomanded by Car due to fast changing Weather conditions in the mountains. From the rail Station Zeltweg Spot 1 and 2 are 2km away. |

Hotels | Several hotels along the Bundesstraße. During the Airpower and big Motorsports events at the Spielbergring the hotels are usually fully booked. |
Season | Best time for sunshine is from Spring to Autumn due to the better weather but you may can expect heat haze during really hot days. In the winter there a big chances to get also shots with snow on the ground or on the mountains on arrival. |
Security | As this is an Military Air Base keep you ID always with you. Usually no problems here. Best is to place the ladder at the fence only when there is a movement to avoid Problems. |

General Info | Main runway in use is 26. 08 is usually only used with strong winds. The Probs and Helicopters often use the Grass runway. |
Spot #1 – Crash Gate Rattenbergerweg – 08R arrivals + departures/ 26L depatures | |

WHERE | This spot is located at the end of the Rattenbergerweg. Use Exit 29 “Zeltweg West” from the Autobahn and drive eastwards. Pass the roundabout and take the next left into the Rattenbergweg. Drive till the end of it and park as marked on the map and walk up to the gate. |
WHAT | All movements on runway 08R and low depatures at runway 26L. |
TIME | 08:00-17:00 during summer. All day during winter |
MISC. | Nothing at this spot directly. A 4 steps ladder is necessary for all 08R movements. Use the ladder at the fence when there is a movement only. Do not walk into the fields to avoid problems with the farmers and do not block the crash gate! |

Spot #2 – 26L arrival + depatures | |

WHERE | Continue on the mainroad eastwards from the Autobahn, pass the airport and museum and turn left after the BILLA supermarket into the Neue Siedlungsstrasse. Park your car as marked on the map and walk up to the Flatschacher Straße. Position yourself at the fence for the wished angle. |
WHAT | All 26L arrivals and line-up. |
TIME | 08:00-17:00 during summer for the arrivals and all day in winter. From sunrise until late noon for the line-up all year round. |
MISC. | Nothing directly at the fence. A 4 step ladder is necessary for the line-up. |

Spot #3 – Airpower Airshow | |

WHERE | Every 3 years the Airpower Airshow is taking place at the first weekend in September on Friday and Saturday. The Spotterdays taking place already 2 days before the show and one day after the show. Tickets are quickly sold out. https://www.airpower.gv.at/ |

TIME | 08:00-17:00 for the show. The static display depends on the parking position. |

Spot 3 is not a real spot for a spotting guide as it is on terrain and therefore not accessible during normal spotting!
