Humberside Airport is located in the North East of England, near the river Humber, hence the name. While the closest town is Kirmington, it serves mainly the 3 larger cities of Scunthorpe, the major fishing port of Grimsby and Hull, across the river Humber.
Like most airports in the UK it started as a RAF airfield during second world war. After the war the site had been unused for several decades before it was turned into a regional airport in the 1970s.
Today it is a relatively small regional airport with around 200,000 passengers a year before the global pandemic.
The main operator is Eastern Airways with flights to Aberdeen and a route to Jersey in the summer. In common with most UK regional airports KLM provides the link to an international hub. Historically there have been seasonal holiday flights to Bulgaria by BH Air and occasional flights to Palma. Other charter flights are operated irregularly for the oil and offshore wind farm industry by the likes of Sun Air. Humberside also gets a fair amount of helicopter flights operated by CHC to the offshore oil rigs in the North Sea. Midweek you get a fair amount of visiting general aviation and military touch and goes (RAF grobs/phenoms mainly, but A400s are not uncommon). Also get visiting bizjets regularly – Hull City owners gulfstream usually turns up for home games.
In addition Humberside is the headquarter and maintenance base of Eastern Airways so that some interesting aircraft can be parked around their hangar.

Hi There, I would recommend not spotting at the numbers provided (#2 by Weston and both #1 Spots by Bae and “Eastern RAMP” which is actually next to 2Excel and this grass is listed as private property by the Airport) as you will be escorted out of the area by security due to these premises being private as the belong to businesses operating at the airport. Especially if you are seen with a step ladder as this could pose a security threat. Also on another note, the Parking spot listed at the bottom of the Airport is Private parking for 2Excel Aviation/Engineering employees only and not to be parked at by members of the public, as adequate parking is provided for this. Instead please spot at the viewpoints on the exterior of the Airport or from the public terminal areas provided by Humberside Airport.
Hi James, I will remove the two points from the guide. Can you provide other locations except the one (Spot 3) left?
Thanks, Julian
I am a local and totally agree with James on all the points. There are £100 no stopping signs up so for instance #1, the passing place on road to firestation (!) is asking for trouble. Other options are to park up on the layby about 0.5 mile past the airport entrance where A18 meets Croxton Road – zoom out on above map and you will see it – or use the short stay car park near terminal (15 mins free/£5 1hr/ £9 2hrs). Final comment is midweek you get a fair amount of visiting general aviation and military touch and goes (RAF grobs/phenoms mainly, but A400s are not uncommon). Also get visiting bizjets regularly – Hull City owners gulfstream usually turns up for home games.
I removed the spots 2 and 3 from the guide. If you guys now additional spots, please let us know.
