The Gyor-Per (QGY, LHPR) airport is located ~15km southeast of Györ and was opened in 1975 as a small airport with a grass runway only. The development of the airport began in the 1990s/2000s. The new apron and the asphalt runway were built in 2003 with the support of Audi as they ran a factory nearby. From the year of 2003 on, Private wings operate daily charter flights to Ingostadt for Audi workers. In 2013, there was another development once the runway (which was 1450m long back then) was increased to 2030 meters. This made it suitable for low cost airline aircraft types like A320s. However, there are still no scheduled flights in 2021, only cargo and charter flights. In 2014 Gyor-Per airport and Wizzair tried to agree on scheduled flights but failed. Thus the airport only handles 20.000 passenger a year. This years there are only PWF operate flights to Gyor with Dornier 328 and some cargo flights (Vulkan AN26) for the nearby Audi factory. In 2021 the reconstruction of the terminal will also begin and hopefully regular pax traffic too.

Airport Information | |

12/30 | 2030m – Asphalt |
Terminals | There is one terminal, used for all flights. |
Spotting Information | |
Ladder | Ladders is required at locations 2, 3 and 5. |
Car/Public Transport | A personal vehicle is necessary to reach all locations. Public transport is poor around the airport to the spots. You can park with your car almost everywhere and quite comfortably next to the terminal building for example, marked on the map. If you still wanna choose a bus, here is a little help with the schedule. Timetable: https://www.menetrendek.hu/mobile/?lng=en |
Drinks/Food | There is a supermarket next to the terminal bus stop. The nearest restaurant named “Feher Akac” is about 3km away from the airport. |
Hotels | There are a lot of hotels in Györ, but non spotter hotel around the airport. |
Season | The spring and the autumn is quite good, summer hazy and winter grey. |
Security | Spotting is absolutely no problem here! |
Runway Usage | |
General Info | Depends on the wind direction but due to little traffic, aircraft sometimes also use backwind if it fits better into their route. |
Spot #1 – Airport Public Area – Apron + nearby taxiway/runway movements | |
---|---|
WHERE | Drive to the terminal building or use the bus and exit at the A81. From there walk to the spot which is located all around the fence right/left of the tower. |
WHAT | All aircraft stands are visible from there also taxiway A and the runway. |
TIME | Actually all day, depends on the aircraft’s position/angle. |
MISC. | The Security Guard may ask you “What are you doing here?”, but they are not disturbing you. No ladder needed as you can take photos above the fence. |
FOCAL LENGTH | 50-300mm F100 landing = 285 mm / An-26 parking = 70 mm |
Spot #2 – Fieldcorner – Apron + Runway movements | |
---|---|
WHERE | You can walk to this place from the car park or from the bus stop at the A81. Just head to the fence west of the apron and walk up trough the ditch to the fencefront. |
WHAT | Stand 7 aircraft parking position and the runway movements are visible. |
TIME | Stand 7 is usually backlit but the landing and takeoff shots are quite good from early noon till sunset. |
MISC. | Ladder needed to shoot comfortably over the fence, otherwise you may have dark corners in your shots if you shot through the mesh. Heat haze on the runway is an issue. |
FOCAL LENGTH | 18-200mm An-74 parking = 30 mm / CRJ 200 taxi = 70 mm / B737-300 landing = 200 mm |
Spot #3 – Fence South – Runway movements | |
---|---|
WHERE | Leave your car by the roadside of the agricultural road, which is a few meters south of the runway and runs parallely to highway 81. But do not walk thru the field easily, instead cross it carefully on one of the paths. You can also walk to this spotter position from the bus stop at the A81 or from the parking at the terminal. |
WHAT | All runway movements actually. |
TIME | Early noon till sunset. |
MISC. | You have to go trough the ditch. A ladder is needed, but nothing around – except heat haze quickly Field/Agricultural road can be muddy quickly. Mind this spot after heavy rains. |
FOCAL LENGTH | 70-200mm A320 = 100mm |
Spot #4 – Shortfinal West – 12 Arrivals | |
---|---|
WHERE | Leave your car by the roadside of the agricultural road, just a few hundered meters westwards of the previous location. But do not walk thru the field easily, instead cross it carefully on one of the paths. Once there position yourself around the runway axis on the paved roads here. You can also walk to this spotter position from the bus stop or from a parking place at the terminal. |
WHAT | Runway 12 arrivals. |
TIME | All day as you can move with the sun. |
MISC. | Nothing around. Field/Agricultural road can be muddy quickly. Mind this spot after heavy rains with your car! |
FOCAL LENGTH | Depends on your position, but 50-300mm should cover everything ATR72 = ~190mm / Do328 = 250mm |
Spot #5 – Fence North – Runway movements | |
---|---|
WHERE | This spotting position is located far away from anything and on the opposite side of the terminal. You can either drive here on the paved way from spot #4 or from the north, which takes quite a bit. In the end it is a gate in the airport fence in a forest area. You can position yourself along the fence around there though. |
WHAT | All runway (and nearby taxiway = line-ups) movements are visible. |
TIME | Runway has only good light in the morning, taxiway is good in the hours of afternoon till sunset. |
MISC. | A ladder is needed, but nothing around – except for heat haze quickly |
FOCAL LENGTH | 70-300mm E190 close-up = 300mm |
Spot #6 – Shortfinal East – 30 Arrivals | |
---|---|
WHERE | East of the village of Pér there is a little road, which leads off highway 81 to the eastern end of the runway. Just take this one and then park your car somewhere by the roadside once you reached the arrival path. Afterwards position yourself as you want/regarding the light. |
WHAT | Runway 30 arrivals. |
TIME | All day as you can move with the sun. |
MISC. | Nothing around. |
FOCAL LENGTH | 50-250mm DF7 = 155 mm / A319 = 75 mm |
