We received several, different reports from planespotters about the situation at the terrace of the Thistle Hotel restaurant at London Heathrow. We heard different stories thats why we asked directly at the hotel to clarify the situation. Sadly we received the info, that taking photos or filming is no longer tolerated on the terrace due to security concerns.
These are the key-facts we got:
- only permit paying guests of the hotel to use this space
- 2 hour time limit on stays on the terrace to keep this facility open
- no food or drink brought in from outside the hotel is allowed
- for security reasons, we do not permit filming/photography
We are pretty sorry about that! But for all that the alternative is spot #11. All infos as usual in our London Heathrow plane spotting guide.
I’ve been there three times in September and October 2024, spending over three hours each visit recording videos and taking photos. I wasn’t approached by anyone, and it seemed like no one was bothered.
This must be new or i was really lucky when i was there few weeks ago. I stayed the whole evening at the terrace and wasn´t even asked if i was a guest of the hotel. ( I was, but nobody cared)
Two buddys of my local spotting community were there last week, also completly ignored by all hotel staff after they bought themselves a drink at the bar.
In my opinion it is still worth a try, as the spot is great for the evening and it is a nice option to sit down and have a drink while spotting.
In case you have to left, other spots are not far away.
Same for me 2 years ago … we just arrived from our morning spotting spott by car, we’ve parked the car in their parking then asked to the reception where was the terrasse and we’ve ordered some beers…
I’m pretty sur that at the moment you drink or eat in their hotel, they are pretty ok with everything …
It’s all subjective. If you like that spot (even though for most of the time it faces into the sun) then that’s a blow, but I can see the it from the hotel’s point of view. I always favour the garden of the Premier in on Bath Road when landings are on 27R and have never had any problems there.
