After many many years of delay, Berlin´s new main airport “Berlin Brandenburg” (BER) openend on the 31st of October 2020. The airport was originally planned to open in October 2011, five years after starting construction in 2006 and replaces nearby Schönefeld as well the airports Tegel (8th of November 2020) and Tempelhof (already being closed in 2008). On 11 December 2009, the decision was made to honouring a person with a distinctive link to the city of Berlin and give the airport a second name – “Berlin Willy Brandt Airport”. Regular airlines they visiting BER daily are e.g. Lufthansa, Delta Airlines, KLM/Air France, Qatar Airways, Turkish Airlines, Aeroflot, Egpytair, Wizz Air and some more. Major airlines are represented at BER are Eurowings, EasyJet and Ryanair which using BER as hub in East Germany. Apart from this you might see some Charters or Freighters and also the German Government flights sometimes.
The airport’s history is massively affected by the history of Berlin as Schönefeld became East-Germany after WW2 and that’s why the airport is quite old and was behind Tegel for a long time. The old Schönefeld Terminal are rebranded to BER Terminal 5 since 25 October 2020 and is scheduled to be operated until the inauguration of planned Terminal 3 by 2030.
Under this LINK is a daily list of all planned movements, incl. planned gate and expected runway.

This spot is loctaed next to a fencing on a dirthpath at the south-western end of the BER area. After around 200 meter you’ll arrive at a green fencing just next to the path, where you can park your car and see the planes coming in. You are on a hill, easily looking over the fence towards the lineup. The way how to get there is quite difficult to discribe so it’s the easiest to follow the marked route on our map! |

Hello,
the names of the runways have been changed due to the shift of the magnetic North Pole. They are now called 06L/25R and 06R/25L.
But I dont know if it is that important to change all the numbers…
Kind regards
Hi, thanks for the hint. It’s no big deal to fix it. But they are now 24L/R and not 25L/R 😉
-Julian
What about spot 15? Is it allowed to enter the highseat?
Hi, is spot 3 still reachable by foot from Schönefeld train station?
How spot 15 looks like? any photos of the spot itself?
The parking for the P7 and P8 is more expensive then you wrote, according to the airport website it costs 4€ for 30 min and 8€ for 1h, max. 49€ a day
A day trip earlier this month allowed me to visit Spots 2 and 5.
Spot 2: the entrance fee is still €3 and I can confirm that despite the instruction to leave after 90 minutes I was able to exit through the automatic doors much later than this without further payment being required. Photography is all through glass and the extreme northwest corner has a plastic coating over the glass making it more difficult.
Spot 5: there now appear to be more lampposts in place along the parking stands which makes photographs of aircraft on the taxiway more difficult, but shots of aircraft on runway 25R are still fine. It is also possible to shoot arrivals on runway 25L from here, although they are further away and will be into sun for most of the day.
Of note is that the view from the departure area in Terminal 1 is very good throughout the entire length of the building, though again photography will obviously be through glass. Similar views as from the observation deck, but with a much wider range and much closer to both runways.
If you need photographs of the issues at Spot 5 I can send them to you.
Hi, thanks for the update. Would be nice to get some pictures from inside the gate area and spot 5 to support@spotterguide.net
Thanks, Julian
Only for correction, Terminal 5 (old SXF) will never been reopend and partly demolition is in progress.
Thanks for the hint. The description for the terminals was in general a bit outdated. I fixed it.
-Julian
Regarding Spot 15: Is this high seat for Spotter or since when is it allowed to enter hunting facilities?
Please note that the viewing terrace tickets are only valid for one hour ! After that you have to leave and buy a new one if you want to return. Could be expensive for one day. This is a very silly regulation and not very spotter friendly. Info: check BER website.
Thats not correct. I recently stayed 90mins, nobody cares and you can exit through the automatic doors (need to scan the barcode on the ticket again).
On the official website it is indeed mentioned that the ticket is valid for just one hour! But maybe they don`t check it when you leave…
You book a fixed time slot for a maximum 1-hour visit. Therefore, please be punctual on site. The validity of the ticket always starts at the selected time and ends after 60 minutes. For example, if you book a ticket for 09:30, it is valid until 10:30. This means that you can enter the terrace by ticket scan at 9:30 a.m. at the earliest and must leave the terrace by 10:30 a.m. at the latest.
According to their website, the validity of a ticket for the terrace is now 90 mins.
https://ber.berlin-airport.de/en/flughafenwelt/besucherterrasse.html
Thanks, Paul. Added the info.
