Spot #1 – Terminal Ramp/Parking Garage – Departures/Arrivals runway 22L |
|
---|---|
WHERE | The Terminal offers two options where you can spot, but from both locations it is possible that you will be asked to leave by airport security. First one is the sidewalk next to the entrance to the Southwest check-in. Just cross the access road and walk to the northernmost end, next to a fire hydrant. The other option is to stay on the top floor of the nearby parking garage. |
WHAT | Perfect for 22L arrivals and departures/line up. For the line-ups we recommend to stay at the sidewalk, as you have a perfect sight of the taxiway and the 22L threshold from there. Ground is possible from the parking garage too but limited due to some trees. The parking garage is a perfect option for the 22L arrivals. |
TIME | From sunrise until afternoon. |
MISC. | Everything you need within the terminals. Be aware of disturbing light poles and trees. Be aware that you can be send away by airport security! |
FOCAL LENGTH | The 737 is the usual aircraft and you need 200mm for it on the runway/threshold. |

I would suggest that you make another update given that F9 [Frontier] and XP [Avelia] have added service as at 26 May 2022.
Is it safe spotting at midway? Just want to know the neighborhoods around it are safe
Ehh I would say not really, they aren’t terrible but are not like the suburbs. But if you have have an expensive camera I can see how that would make you a target. But the airport is heavily secured and monitored so you should be alright
Remember, be careful driving from the north side to the south side, even coming from the far south side. We all know how dangerous the southside can be. Make sure your careful!
There is an airport that I believe is pretty cheap. If you go on the top level, you can look out over the entire airport.
How much is the airport capacity of Chicago Midway Airport?
